SPOCs can prove to be an effective medium to deliver skills training to bridge the gap between university education and necessary job skills in large technology organizations. In this session, we give an overview of how Applied Materials has embraced the Open edX platform to deliver strategic objective, engineering and sales training targeted to a global employee base of approximately 13,000 employees. A comparison and contrast of pedagogical practices, technical requirements for LMS and CMS, and educational outcomes in an enterprise setting versus traditional university-based online education will be presented, with current gaps being especially highlighted.
